William and Martha Lowery Anderson brought their children, Joseph, Thomas, Mary Jane, William, Margaret to North America in 1838. Their youngest child, James, was born in New Brunswick, Canada in 1839. They moved into the United States in 1840, settling in western PA.

John Wilson was born in Ireland in 1786. Around 1809 he married his first wife, Hannah. Hannah died about 1833. John married Charlotte Gibson about 1835. They had four children, Samuel Westly Wilson, Robert Wilson, Nancy Ann Wilson and Jane. Jane was listed as "deaf" on the 1850 census. She seemed to have always had special needs. In 1869, she married William Anderson. William was the brother of Thomas Anderson who married Jane's sister, Nancy Ann Wilson.
